Pool Install Timeline

Building a fiberglass pool is a long but rewarding process. With so many different styles and sizes to choose from, you can find the perfect pool to suit your needs. The process of building a fiberglass pool includes site preparation, excavation, water and backfill, plumbing and electrical, and pool deck installation. The timeframe from beginning to end can vary depending on the time of year and if all products are in stock. If you are looking to have the job completed for summer, it’s important to use a company like us, who can work year round.

Step 1: Site Preparation

The first step in building a pool is obtaining the proper permits and identifying where utilities are located within your project area. Our designer will then prepare the excavation area by outlining the pool dimensions with spray paint or will use a pre-fabricated template that matches your design. This process only takes a few hours to complete. If the pool shell you choose is in stock, we can get started right away. However, if you choose a shell that needs to be ordered, it can take an additional 2-3 months to ship it to us.

Step 2: Excavation

The next step is to excavate the area for the pool. An excavator is used to dig the hole, while care is taken to follow the pool's outlines by only digging 8-12 inches out from each side for a tight fit. Our goal is to ensure that the pool is set at an appropriate level for safe use. The excavation process may take up to 3 days, depending on the size of the project area, the equipment used, and other factors such as weather.

Step 3: Water and Backfill

Once the excavation is complete and the pool shell is set in and level, the process of adding water and backfill begins. First, 6 inches of washed sand or gravel is placed around the bottom radius of the pool. This is called "locking in" the pool. The pool is then filled with 6 inches of water. This process is repeated, creating equal pressure on the inside and outside of the pool wall. PVC pipes are then attached to plumbing fittings and the lines are pressure tested for leaks. This is also when lights and water features are installed. The backfill isn’t added until the grade level of the deck placement is reached, which can take 1-4 days depending on conditions.

Step 4: Plumbing and Electrical

The equipment pad is then strategically placed on the project site to hold all of your pump, filter, and heater needs. Plumbing lines have already been run in previous steps, so this part is simple. Depending on local inspection requirements, it can take 1-2 days to get everything hooked up so that every aspect works beautifully together as intended.

Step 5: Pool Deck Installation

The final step is the installation of the pool deck. This step involves pouring concrete or laying pavers around the pool to create a functional and attractive space for lounging and entertaining. The process of setting up forms, using a quick-setting binder mix, and laying down an even layer of material can take anywhere from two days to a couple of weeks, depending on weather conditions, the size of the pool, and the design that you choose. Our company works year-round, and unlike other pool installers, has dedicated crews that are experts in concrete and pavers installation, with years of experience and outstanding reviews on our patio projects.

Step 6: Start Enjoying Your Pool!

After your pool has been completed, and you have received a final walk-through and lesson on how to care for your new in-ground fiberglass pool, it’s time to start making memories. Be sure to ask your builder about scheduling regular pool service to keep your pool clean and tidy! Overall, building a fiberglass pool can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the size and complexity of the project. However, the end result is a beautiful backyard oasis that you and your family can enjoy for years to come.
